How-To: Making cheap phone calls from Talkonaut

Talkonaut is tightly integrated with GTalk2VoIP Gateway service, which allows you to make very cheap VoIP calls to phone numbers world-wide using your mobile data connection (like GPRS, EDGE, 3G or WIFI). GTalk2VoIP provides you calling service through a number of certified VoIP providers, each with its own quality and rates. Talkonaut mobile application allows you to choose between any of these VoIP providers, or setup your own Dialing Plan to be able to route your calls to different destinations through different providers. Here below is the complete instruction on how to use this calling service.

1. Before you proceed with the calling, you will have to update your balance (purchase credits) in GTalk2VoIP system. Please follow these steps:

• Run Talkonaut and connect to any of your accounts (gmail.com or talkonaut.com).
• Choose Menu->Credits & Service->Buy Credits (or Menu->Tools->Balance->Buy credits on older versions of Talkonaut), you will be redirected to your Personal Account Page on GTalk2VoIP.
• Click button reflecting the amount of credits you wish to purchase.
• After somewhile you will be redirected to Paypal payment processing site. Enter your Paypal account credentials (on the right side of the page) and wait till Paypal asks for payment confirmation.
• Proceed with the confirmation and wait for purchase receipt to appear. Please store or remember receipt number, this will be helpful in resolving issues if they appear.
• Now you have your credits on your balance. Close the Web Browser and come back to Talkonaut.
• Please note that on Paypal site behaves very slowly on mobile devices, so please be patient, wait till all the data of the site gets loaded.
  Please never hit buttons twice or more times!.

2. Now, you have to add your destination phone number to your list of contacts (also commonly referred as roster).

• In Talkonaut, go to Menu->Add contact menu item.
• In the Contact type list choose Phone number.
• Type in your destination phone number into Phone number: field. Please provide your number in E.164 (international) format like:
  For India, type: +919XXXXXXX, for UAE type: +971, for UK: +44, for US: +1
• Optionally, in the Nickname field please provide some description for this new contact.
• Press Save, and in a couple of seconds your new contact with the phone number will appear in the Phone tab.

3. Once contact is added, you may want to know all the possoble routes and rates associated.

• Browse through Phone tab and find a destination phone number you wish to get al routes and rates for.
• While phone number is highlighted (cursor is placed in it), press Menu->Call->Call cost.
• After somewhile, you will be presented with Cost information dialog, reflecting all possible routes (provider names) and costs associated with them. See example below:
  

  Calling to: 919412345678
  via INOV5 costs $0.0429
  via AVANGARD costs $0.0322
  via ELLIPSO costs $0.0747
  

• Here we have three different routes (providers), called: INOV5, AVANGARD and ELLIPSO, all of them provide services for different rates.
• Please understand that the cheaper provider, the worse quality it might offer!

4. Now, we are ready to make phone call.

• Find your destination phone number in Phone tab by putting cursor on phone number you wish to call to.
• Press green Yes button on your phone.
• Wait till you connect, the talk. Some progress information will be shown in the Calling dialog.
• To end your call or just drop it, press red No button.
• his calling method will setup your call using default routing, means the first provider from the list above will be used to deliver your call. If that fails, the next provider will be chosen and so on.
• Please understand that providers are not ranked by cost, so the first one may not be the cheapest! Providers are rank by a number of quality reflecting paramters.

5. Selecting route (provider) for your call.

• Find your destination phone number in Phone tab as in the above.
• Press Menu->Call->Call contact via ...
• In the Call to dialog please choose provider through which you want to route your call.
• Wait till your call is connected, then talk.
• Press red No button on your phone to terminate your call.
